KHL team in Sochi hasn't paid players in more than two months

Sochi's Kontinental Hockey League team has not paid its players in more than two months.

Sochi's Kontinental Hockey League team has not paid its players in more than two months, according to the Associated Press.

The club, HC Sochi, cannot compete in the next KHL season if it doesn't pay the players what they are owed before the end of May, according to the AP. The team said it will do so by April 30.

The head of the KHL Players' Trade Union, former Edmonton Oilers forward Andrei Kovalenko, said HC Sochi is struggling with financial problems and that its players were last paid in January. 

Russia is currently experiencing its own financial issues and its economy is heading toward a recession. According to the AP, many of the KHL's Russian teams have been dealing with financial issues this season.

The 2014 Winter Olympics were held in Sochi.
