The Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning will matchup in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs beginning Thursday. The Lightning are a No. 2 seed and the Red Wings are a No. 3 seed. 

Tampa Bay finished 50–24–8 with 108 points, second in the Atlantic Division. Detroit finished third in the Atlantic at 43–25–14 with 100 points.

Centers Steven Stamkos and Tyler Johnson lead the Lightning with 72 points each. Goaltender Ben Bishop ranks 15th in the NHL with a 2.32 goals against average and 22nd with a .916 save percentage.

For the Red Wings, forward Henrik Zetterberg led the team with 66 points while forward Pavel Datsyuk recorded 65 points in 63 games. Goaltender Jimmy Howard ranks 24th with a 2.44 goals against average and 33rd with a .910 save percentage, but rookie Petr Mrazek will start Thursday's Game 1 at Tampa Bay. Detroit coach Mike Babcock made the decision earlier this week.
