Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby is day-to-day with an illness and Philipp Grubauer will start in goal for Game 2 against the New York Islanders on Friday. 

Grubauer was recalled by the Capitals earlier Friday from the Hershey Bears of the AHL. He's appeared in only one game this season for Washington and has played in 20 for his NHL career, going 7-6-5 with a 2.44 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage.

In 73 games this season, Holtby has gone 41-20-10 with a .923 save percentage and a 2.22 goals-against average.

The Capitals lost Game 1 to the Islanders 4-1 on Wednesday. Game 3 will take place on Sunday in New York.
