Watch: Derek Stepan's overtime goal lifts Rangers over Capitals
Derek Stepan scored the game-winning goal Wednesday night to lift the New York Rangers over the Washington Capitals in Game 7 of the NHL's Eastern Conference semifinals.
Stepan logged his third goal of the postseason off a long assist from Dan Girardi.
The Rangers will advance to the Eastern Conference Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Game 1 of that series will take place Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Tampa Bay defeated the Montréal Canadiens four games to two in their semifinal series.
Stepan's shot was the nail in the coffin for the Capitals' season. The Capitals were playing in their second Game 7 in as many series during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Washington had ended the New York Islanders' season in the first round of the playoffs last month.
