Trailing 2–1 in the Western Conference finals, the Chicago Blackhawks Friday recalled defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk from the AHL's Rockford IceHogs.

The 23-year-old University of New Hampshire product played in 18 games for the Blackhawks at the beginning of the 2014-15 season, van Riemsdyk's first year in the league.

He suffered a fractured patella during a Nov. 16 game against Dallas. Van Riemsdyk then underwent surgery and had been rehabbing with the IceHogs since March until he injured his wrist on April 7, according to an ESPN report, and has not played since.

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville does not think van Riemsdyk will play in Saturday's Game 4 against Anaheim, the report said.

Chicago lost to Anaheim 2–1 in Game 3 of the teams' series Thursday night.
