The Tampa Bay Lightning won Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals 2–0 on Friday night on a game-sealing goal in the middle of the third period from Ondrej Palat.

The goal, which subdued the raucous Game 7 atmosphere of Madison Square Garden, came with under nine minutes left in the third when Lightning star Tyler Johnson sped up the right side of the ice with a burst of speed and assisted Palat across the ice.

New York, the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, had forced a Game 7 on Tuesday when it defeated Tampa Bay 7–3 in Florida. The teams went back and forth all series, with no side winning two or more games in a row.

Tampa Bay now advances to the Stanley Cup finals, where it will face the winner of the Western Conference finals. The Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks will play their own Game 7 on Saturday.
