Voice of hockey Emrick to get Vin Scully Award

NEW YORK (AP) Mike Emrick, the voice of hockey in America, will receive the Vin Scully Award for lifetime achievement.

Emrick, currently calling the Stanley Cup Final between Tampa Bay and Chicago, becomes the eighth recipient of the prestigious honor given by WFUV Radio. He will be presented with the award on Nov. 2.

Being chosen for the award left Emrick ''speechless, and that's rare for me.''

Emrick has worked 25 consecutive Stanley Cup playoffs, 14 Stanley Cup Final series, and 10 NHL All-Star Games, plus seven Winter Olympics.

The award is named for the iconic voice of the Dodgers for more than 60 years and a Fordham University alumnus. WFUV, Fordham's 50,000-watt station, was the launching pad to Scully's Hall of Fame broadcast career.

Previous Scully Award recipients after Scully (2008) were Dick Enberg (2009), Ernie Harwell (2010), Pat Summerall (2011), Al Michaels (2012), Bob Costas (2013), and Verne Lundquist (2014).
