New Jersey Devils sign forward Lee Stempniak to one-year deal

The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Lee Stempniak, the team announced Saturday. Stempniak’s deal is for one year and $850,000. 

Stempniak played in 71 games for the Winnipeg Jets and New York Rangers last season. He recorded 28 points on 15 goals and 13 assists. Stempniak agreed to tryout with the Devils on the eve of training camp and played in all of their preseason games. 

Stempniak was a fifth-round pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2003. In his career, he has 165 goals and 204 assists for 369 points. 

The Devils missed the playoffs last season for the third straight time, finishing seventh in the Metropolitan Division with 78 points. New Jersey opens its upcoming season on Oct. 9 against the Jets.
