Sabres winger Evander Kane leaves game with leg injury
Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane left Saturday’s 4–3 loss to the New Jersey Devils with an apparent knee injury.
Kane sustained the injury early in the third period after Devils defenseman David Schemko checked him into the end boards, placing Kane’s leg in a tough position. Kane remained on the ice before being helped off. Reports indicated it was his left knee giving him problems. He did not return to the game.
Sabres coach Dan Bylsma said he didn’t want to speculate on the injury, and had no immediate postgame update on Kane’s status.
After the game, Kane tweeted a thank you to fans for their support.
Kane, 24, missed the majority of last season with the Winnipeg Jets after having shoulder surgery in February. The Sabres acquired him via trade shortly afterward. He was the fourth pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
In the first six games of the season, Kane recorded one goal and two assists.
