The Coyotes sent out rookie Max Domi by himself during warmups Monday in Toronto, the city where his father played.

The Toronto Maple Leafs playing the Arizona Coyotes isn’t exactly the sexiest of draws any time, and on a Monday night it’s that much tougher to get excited. But this matchup had some added interest to it as rookie phenom Max Domi made his first appearance at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto as a member of the desert dogs.

Domi’s father Tie was one of the more beloved Leafs during his time with Toronto, and Max’s teammates understood how special a night it was for him. So they honored one of the more timeless traditions in the NHL and gave Max a little extra attention.

During pregame warmup, the Coyotes not only let Max out on the ice first, they let him stay there alone for 30 seconds. Call it a chance to soak up the spotlight or call it a bit of rookie hazing. Either way, in one of the more anticipated dates in the young forward’s career, it became a game he won’t forget before the puck had even dropped.
