Saturday October 31st, 2015

The New York Islanders announced center John Tavares is ruled out for Saturday’s game against the New Jersey Devils

The team added the reason for Tavares’s absence would be provided postgame. The “situation isn’t considered serious,” reports Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston.

Tavares leads the Islanders in goals (5) and assists (6) so far this season. The forward is coming off a season where he finished with a career-high in goals (38) and points (86).

Last season, Tavares was one of three finalists for the Hart Memorial Trophy, given to the National Hockey League’s Most Valuable Player. The award was given to goaltender Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens.

The Islanders face off against the Devils at the Prudential Center at 1:00 p.m.
