Tatar powers Red Wings to 5-3 win over Senators

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) Henrik Zetterberg keeps getting the job done for the Detroit Red Wings.

Zetterberg collected his 500th career assist in the first period and his 800th point in the second with his second helper of the night, leading the Red Wings to a 5-3 victory against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.

''I'm happy I reached it and I've played with a lot of great players who helped me reach that,'' said Zetterberg, who also had a chance for his 300th goal in the dying seconds, but his attempt at an empty net went wide.

''I was trying to get the 300th goal too, but (Erik) Karlsson made a good play and was in the lane so I couldn't get it.''

Tomas Tatar, Gustav Nyquist and Danny DeKeyser each had a goal and an assist, helping Detroit rebound from a 3-1 home loss to Ottawa on Friday night. Jonathan Ericsson and Dylan Larkin also scored, and Petr Mrazek made 33 saves.

The Senators, who had won two in a row, got goals from Kyle Turris, Mark Stone and Bobby Ryan, along with 23 saves from Craig Anderson. The Senators are just 1-3-2 at home this season.

The Red Wings carried a 3-1 lead into the third period and quickly added two more goals.

Larkin scored on a wraparound just 39 seconds into the period and then, following some pressure by the Senators, the Red Wings broke out 4-on-1 and DeKeyser scored off a drop pass from Nyquist at 5:35.

Stone's goal at 15:51 made it 5-2, and Ryan closed out the scoring at 18:51. The two late goals didn't bother Mrazek.

''It doesn't matter at all. The most important thing is the two points,'' Mrazek said.

''Just like (Friday) night, they were putting everything to the net. It's always hard to play back-to-back and we knew they were going to play hard at home.''

The Red Wings jumped in front in the first on a power-play goal for Tatar, whose shot from the faceoff dot to the right of Anderson found the smallest of gaps short side at 12:55.

A second power-play goal in the second period made it 2-0. Zetterberg put a perfect slap pass into the slot and right on the stick of Nyquist, who redirected the puck past Anderson at 4:29.

The Senators got one back at 13:36 when Turris collected his 100th career goal, jumping on a massive rebound off a Karlsson point shot.

''It's just another goal and didn't help much tonight,'' Turris said.

''I have to find a way to bury the opportunities the guys are giving me. If I score a power-play goal early I feel the game would have been different. There were three or four Grade A opportunities that I have to find a way to bury.''

The Wings regained their two-goal cushion at 18:05 when a point shot from Ericsson went over the shoulder of Anderson.
