New York Islanders center John Tavares will return to the ice on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens, head coach Jack Capuano announced.

Tavares had previously missed the Islanders’ last three games when he woke up with an illness on Saturday. New York went 1–2 during Tavares’s absence.

The 25-year-old leads the Islanders in goals (5) and assists (6) so far this season. He is coming off a season in which he finished with career-highs in goals (38) and points (86).

Last season, Tavares was one of three finalists for the Hart Memorial Trophy, given to the NHL’s most valuable player. The award was ultimately given to Canadiens goaltender Carey Price.

The Islanders (7–3–3) face off against the Canadiens (11–2–1) at the Bell Centre in Montreal at 7:30 p.m ET.
