Maple Leafs’ Daniel Winnik snipes goal, leaves with injury shortly after

Maple Leafs center Daniel Winnik left Saturday’s game against the Washington Capitals with an injury shortly after scoring the night’s opening goal.

Daniel Winnik’s veteran presence has been a strong influence on this season’s Maple Leafs, a team in transition, but he may be out for awhile after an eventful first period Saturday against the Washington Capitals.

Winnik opened the scoring with a rocket short side on Braden Holtby, his second goal of the season.

Soon afterward, Winnik got caught up in the boards in the Leafs zone trying to land a check on Caps forward Justin Williams. His left leg got twisted up in the process and he left the game soon afterwards.
