Derek Stepan is out indefinitely with broken ribs after Boston BruinsMatt Beleskey delivered a big hit on the New York Rangers forward at the TD Garden on Friday, the team announced.

In the second period of the Rangers 4–3 loss to Boston, Stepan was hit by Belesky. Rangers defenseman Dylan McIlrath retaliated by fighting Beleskey, which resulted in an instigator penalty. The Bruins scored on the following power play to tie the game at two goals.

J.T. Miller replaced Stepan for the Rangers' second power play in the third period and would score for the Rangers.

The Bruins won their fifth game in a row. The Rangers will look to rebound against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.
