Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price will miss at least six weeks with a lower body injury, the team announced Monday. Price will not need surgery.

Price was first injured on Oct. 29 and sat out until Nov. 20. He then made three starts before re-aggravating the injury in the second period of the third game on Nov. 25 against the Rangers

Montreal general manager Marc Bergevin told reporters Monday that Price’s decision to return was not the reason he was re-injured.

“When it did happen, I was wondering if he came back too quick,” Bergevin said, according to NHL.com. “But based on our doctors, based on Carey, based on everything we have…it was not the reason that he got injured, that he came back too quick. But I understand the question, you always wonder if that was the case. We looked into it deeply after and that was not the case.”

Rookie Mike Condon will be the starter in Price’s absence, with Dustin Tokarski as the backup.

The injury means that Price will likely miss the Winter Classic against the Bruins at Gillette Stadium on Jan. 1.
