Buffalo Sabres left winger Evander Kane is being investigated for a sex offense, reports Tim Graham of The Buffalo News

Kane has not been charged with a crime and the investigation is ongoing, according to the report. The incident Kane is being investigated for allegedly took place at a hotel room near the Sabres’ home arena, sources told Graham.

Kane did not attend Buffalo’s practice Sunday morning, which the team said was for personal reasons. The forward has eight goals and five assists in 25 games for the Sabres this season.

The franchise released a statement Sunday evening saying it was taking the allegations seriously.

Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane, a South Buffalo native who is not related to Evander, was also investigated for a sex offense in the Buffalo area earlier this year. Police told the News they are not naming Evander Kane as a suspect publicly because of the intense media coverage in the Patrick Kane case, in which the Blackhawks star was not charged.

The Sabres’ next game is Monday at home against the Washington Capitals.
