Watch: Eight of Alexander Ovechkin's most memorable goals
Now in his 11th year in the NHL, Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin has scaled the all-time goals leaderboard in truly impressive fashion. Since breaking into the league at the age of 20, the Russian winger has never scored fewer than 30 times in a season, has been impressively durable, and on Sunday, he notched goal No. 500, becoming the 43rd NHLer, and first Russian-born player to accomplish the feat.
Late in the second period of Washington’s game against the Senators, Ovechkin ripped a shot from the left circle past goalie Andrew Hammond for a power play goal that gave the Capitals a 5–1 lead.
In honor of Ovechkin’s 500th goal milestone, here are eight of No. 8’s best-ever goals, beginning with perhaps his most famous highlight from 2006, his rookie year.
