Coyotes lose goalie Lindback to off-ice injury

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Arizona Coyotes backup goalie Anders Lindback suffered an unspecified off-ice injury prior to warmups against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night and was not available.

The team said Lindback will be evaluated by the Coyotes' medical staff, with an update provided on Tuesday.

The short notice left Arizona with no chance to call up a goalie from the minors in time for the game, so they will use Nathan Schoenfeld, son of New York Rangers assistant GM and former Coyotes coach Jim Schoenfeld, as the backup to Louis Domingue.

Jim Schoenfeld was hired as the assistant GM in 2007 in New York, when Don Maloney became Arizona's GM.

Nathan Schoenfeld is the son-in-law of Coyotes equipment manager Stan Wilson and lives in the Phoenix area. He played club hockey at Arizona State University.

The NHL instituted a new rule requiring every team to have a goalie who lives in the area and can dress in case of an injury emergency. Schoenfeld signed an Amateur Tryout Agreement prior to Monday night's game.
