Watch: Leafs’ Leo Komarov ejected after hit to Ryan McDonagh’s head
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Leo Komarov could be hearing from the league offices in the next few days.
Komarov was ejected from Thursday’s game after he landed a hit with his elbow to the head of New York Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh.
With just over a minute left in the first period, Komarov was re-entering his defensive zone as McDonagh cut back into the play with the puck. The forward’s elbow caught McDonagh’s face, causing him to bleed and forcing him to leave play. Komarov received a match penalty for the hit. The NHL’s department of player safety announced Friday morning that Komarov will have a hearing.
McDonagh was not on the Rangers’ bench for the start of the second period.
Thursday marked McDonagh’s second game back since sustaining a concussion on Feb. 6 upon being punched in the face by Philadelphia Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds. The defenseman missed four games.
In 55 games this year, Komarov has amassed 35 points, 18 of them being goals. He had only 24 penalty minutes prior to tonight and has never been suspended.
McDonagh has 26 points on seven goals and 19 assists this season for the Rangers.
