The Kings have acquired forward Kris Versteeg in a trade with the Hurricanes, according to multiple reports. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman was first to report the deal.

Carolina receives 20-year-old Russian winger Valentin Zykov and a conditional fifth-round pick, team reporter Jon Rosen and TSN’s Bob McKenzie report.

Versteeg, 29, will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. In 62 games this season, he has 11 goals and 22 assists.

The Hurricanes traded captain Eric Staal to the Rangers earlier Sunday.

Kings winger Marian Gaborik was placed on long-term injured reserve earlier this month and center Jordan Nolan was placed on IR Sunday.

Carolina acquired Versteeg in a trade with the Blackhawks in September. This is the seventh time he has been traded since being drafted by the Bruins in 2004.
