Devils goalie Schneider to miss time with MCL sprain

The New Jersey Devils already-tenuous playoff chances took another hit on Sunday when coach John Hynes announced starting goalie Cory Schneider will be out “at least two weeks” with an MCL sprain.
The 29-year-old netminder was hurt in the third period of a 4-2 loss in Dallas while stretching to make a save against Stars forward Jason Spezza on Saturday.

Schneider has been New Jersey’s linchpin this season with a 26-23-6 record, a .923 save percentage and 2.17 goals against average.
The team recalled veteran goalie Yann Danis from AHL Albany on Saturday, and backup Keith Kinkaid struggled in the Devils’ 6-1 loss to the Pittsbugh Penguins on Sunday, stopping 24 of 30 shots and falling to 5-6-1 on the season.
The Devils, in the middle of a 2-8-0 slide, sit six points out of the Eastern Conference’s second wild card spot with 15 games remaining in the regular season.
