Watch: Anthony Mantha scores first NHL goal, grandfather cries watching

That is one proud Grandpa. Anthony Mantha scores first career goal as grandfather sheds a tear.

They say you never forget your first NHL goal. Judging from the reaction of Anthony Mantha’s grandfather, it’s doubtful that he will forget his grandson’s first goal either.

Up 3–0 in the second period against the Montreal Canadiens, the Red Wings rookie tucked home a rebound right in front of the net, then proceeded to launch himself into the boards in celebration. And his grandfather, four-time Stanley Cup winner Andre Pronovost, caught the whole reaction on his phone.

Overcome with emotion, Pronovost could not hold back the tears.

Many NHL rookies score their first goal every season, but it’s doubtful the hockey world will forget this one anytime soon.

Montreal scored three goals in the third period, but Detroit held on to win 4–3.
