Watch: Jamie Benn becomes first Star to score 40 goals since Mike Modano

Jamie Benn scored his 40th goal of the season on Thursday night, becoming the first Star to tally 40 games since Mike Modona did 22  years ago.

When Jamie Benn won the Art Ross Trophy last season, he was the first player in the history of the Dallas Stars franchise to lead the NHL in points.

It wasn’t quite another franchise first, but Benn’s goal against the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday made him the first Star to score 40 goals in a season since Mike Modano scored 50 in the team’s first season in Dallas 22 years ago.

Benn’s40th goal of the season also moved him past Patrick Kane for second place in NHL goal scoring this season, four behind Alex Ovechkin for the league lead.

Benn later added an assist in the Stars’ 4-1 victory, improving his point total to 87. He now trails Kane by seven for the NHL league lead in points.
