Islanders captain John Tavares forced overtime against the Panthers with a goal in the final minute of regulation, then won it in double overtime to send New York to the second round of the playoffs.

Islanders captain John Tavares forced overtime against the Panthers with a goal in the final minute of regulation, then won it in double overtime to send New York to the second round of the playoffs.

Tavares beat Roberto Luongo on a wraparound with just over nine minutes to go in the period, and gave the Islanders a 2–1 victory in Game 6 of their opening-round series.

The Islanders will face the Lightning in the second round.
