Penguins’ Kris Letang suspended for hit on Marcus Johansson

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang has been suspended one game for his hit on Washington Capitals winger Marcus Johansson, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced.

The incident, which occurred during the first period of Monday’s 3–2 win by Pittsburgh in Game 3 of the second round series, forced Johansson to temporarily leaves the ice before returning at the start of the second period. Letang was given a two-minute minor for the late, high hit to Johansson’s blind slide.

Capitals forward Brooks Orpik was suspended three games for a hit on Pittsburgh’s Olli Maatta in Game 2 of the series. 

​The Penguins have a 2-1 lead in the series. Game 4 is on Wednesday in Pittsburgh.
