Lightning’s Bishop taken off the ice on stretcher in Game 1
Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Ben Bishop exited early in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final on Friday night in Pittsburgh. On Saturday, we was listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury, reports Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times.
Bishop, a 2016 Vezina Trophy nominee, went down with an apparent groin injury 12:35 into the first period. On a wraparound attempt by Penguins forward Patric Hornqvist, a sliding Bishop appeared to catch his right leg on the goal post, resulting in the injury.
He remained still on the ice for several minutes before being carried off on a stretcher.
Bishop had stopped all nine shots he faced in the first period before his injury. He was replaced in goal by backup Andrei Vasilevskiy.
Head coach Jon Cooper said after the game that X-rays on Bishop came back negative.
The Lightning defeated the Penguins 3–1. Game 2 is set for Monday.
