Coyotes sign first-round pick Jakob Chychrun

The Arizona Coyotes signed first-round pick Jakob Chychrun to an entry-level contract Saturday.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) The Arizona Coyotes signed first-round pick Jakob Chychrun to an entry-level contract Saturday.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

The 18-year-old Chychrun, selected 16th overall last month, had 11 goals and 38 assists in 62 games last season for the Sarnia Sting in the Ontario Hockey League. He's 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds.

''It's an honor to sign with the Coyotes,'' Chychrun said in a statement released by the team. ''I'm the first to understand that there's still a lot of work ahead of me, but this is an absolute dream come true to sign my first NHL contract.''
