Lightning forward Steven Stamkos out four months after knee surgery
Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos will be miss approximately four months after undergoing surgery for a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee, the team announced Thursday.
Stamkos was hurt in the first period during Tuesday’s game in Detroit, in a collision with Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist. The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert LaPrade at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado.

Stamkos, who recently signed a blockbuster eight-year deal worth an annual average value of $8.5 million, has nine goals and 11 assists in 17 games on the season.
Tampa Bay, one of the favorites to come out of the East, currently sits third in the Atlantic Division at 10-6-1 ahead of Thursday’s matchup against the Sabres in Buffalo.
