Sharks Cs Thornton, Couture day to day heading into playoffs

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) Injured San Jose Sharks centers Joe Thornton and Logan Couture took part in practice as the team begins preparing for a first-round playoff series against the Edmonton Oilers.

Coach Peter DeBoer said both players remain day to day heading into the opener Wednesday night in Edmonton.

Couture missed the final seven games of the regular season after taking a deflected puck to the face. He took part in the entire practice on the top line with Joe Pavelski and Melker Karlsson with a full cage to protect his injured face. Couture says he is still in pain and the injury has not fully healed.

Thornton skated for only part of the practice on an injured left knee that sidelined him for the final three games.
