Bruins Make NHL History As Fastest Team to Reach 50 Wins

The Bruins just keep on winning, and the franchise’s latest victory saw Boston etch its place in NHL history. With Saturday’s comeback win over the Red Wings, the Bruins became the fastest-ever team to reach 50 regular-season wins. 

It took Boston just 64 games to pick up 50 wins, besting the record previously held by Detroit, who won 50 games in 66 games in 1995-96. The 2018-19 Lightning also needed 66 games to achieve 50 victories.

Boston’s season record of 50-9-5 (105 points) is far and away the best in the league. They hold a 19-point lead over the Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division and are 11 points ahead of the Hurricanes, who have the NHL's second-best record thus far. 

The Bruins found themselves trailing 2–0 early into Saturday's game against the Red Wings, but rallied off three consecutive goals to pick up the 3–2 win. 

Leading the charge offensively this season has been superstar David Pastrnak, who recently signed a big-money extension with the franchise. Pastrnak has 86 points including 45 goals, ranking fourth and second in the league in those respective categories.

Meanwhile, Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm have been excellent on defense, while All-Star Linus Ullmark is having a sensational season in the net. 

The Bruins will look to finish out the year on a strong note, currently sitting 27 points behind the NHL’s all-time single-season points record of 132, set by the Canadiens back in 1976-77. To achieve that, they’ll need to win 14 of their last 18 games (or fewer if they lose in overtime).
