Former Florida football star and ex-NFL quarterback Tim Tebow is set to become the co-owner of an upstart professional hockey team.

Tebow, alongside David Hodges, CEO of Hodges Management Group, will own an expansion team in the ECHL after the league’s board of governors approved their application.

The team will be located in Lake Tahoe, though a name, color scheme and logo have yet to be revealed. The franchise plans to work with fans and the community in order to collectively come up with an identity for the team. The Tahoe Blue Event Center, a brand-new stadium that seats 4,200 people, will play host to the team’s games. The stadium is located in Stateline, Nevada.

Tebow’s franchise will be the 29th team in the ECHL, which is a mid-level professional hockey league that has affiliations with the NHL.

“I love that sports can bring people together from all over to enjoy camaraderie, competition, and community impact. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to be part of a group bringing hockey to the Tahoe area for fans and families to create memories for years to come,” said the 2007 Heisman Winner in a statement at the Tahoe Blue Event Center on Monday.

Hodges expressed that the franchise is expecting to begin play in October 2024.
