Jordan Kyrou Offers Teary-Eyed Apology After Blues Fans Boo Him Over Coach Comments

Blues forward Jordan Kyrou was the subject of some boos from the St. Louis home crowd Thursday night during the team’s 4–1 win over the Senators.

The 25-year-old was emotional while speaking to reporters in the locker room after the win, admitting that it hurt to hear the fans turn on him in the aftermath of some controversial comments he made about former coach Craig Berube, who was fired on Tuesday.

“It’s just tough,” said Kyrou while fighting back tears. “I love playing here so it’s just tough to here the fans booing me there.”

Kyrou was asked about his relationship with his former coach on Thursday, two days after his firing. 

“I’ve got no comment. He’s not my coach anymore,” Kyrou said in his initial comments.

Fans did not appreciate the remarks from Kyrou, which had gone viral prior to puck drop on Thursday night. He apologized for his remarks after the game.

“Sorry if it sounded in a bad way at all,” Kyrou said, via ESPN. “I’m just really trying to focus on the future here and focus on what I can do to help get the wins for the boys.”

“I obviously respect Chief,” he said of Berube. “He’s been my coach the whole time I’ve been here. I respect everything he's done. He won a Cup, you know? I’m just trying to focus on my future and focus on what I can do to help my team win. That’s all I really meant.”

After scoring a career-high 37 goals last season, Kyrou has just five in 29 games this year. He registered an assist in the win against Ottawa, bringing him to 18 points on the campaign.

Berube was fired after a 13–14–1 start to the year. He’d been the Blues’ coach since 2018, winning 206 games and a Stanley Cup.
