Allyson Felix wins 400 meters in 49.68 at U.S. Olympic trials

Allyson Felix won the women's 400 meters in 49.68 at the Olympic trials despite a nagging ankle injury.

An ankle injury could not stop Allyson Felix at the Olympic trials, as she won the 400 meters in 49.68. That's the fastest time in the world for 2016.

Felix is halfway through to her goal of running the 200 and 400 meters at the Olympics. Michael Johnson is the only American to have accomplished the feat, as he won both races at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

Felix owns Olympic gold medals in the women's 4x400-meter relay from Beijing and London, but has not contested a 400 individually at the Olympics.

Felix will race again in five days for the first round of the women's 200 meters.

Phyllis Francis and Natasha Hastings finished second and third for the other two spots.
