Team USA stars featured on SI cover ahead of 2016 Olympic Games

Tuesday July 19th, 2016

Seven members of the United States Olympic delegation are featured on this week’s Sports Illustrated cover with the 2016 Rio Games less than three weeks away.

Basketball player Kevin Durant, track star Allyson Felix, swimmer Katie Ledecky, swimmer Michael Phelps, decathlete Ashton Eaton, soccer player Alex Morgan and gymnast Simone Biles grace the cover of SI’s Olympic preview issue.

In SI’s comprehensive preview of this year’s Summer Games, writer Dan Greene introduces Team USA’s Olympians and Paralympians. Tim Layden writes about the next generation of track and field after Usain Bolt, and S.L. Price writes about the refugee team at the Olympics. Richard Deitsch previews the must–watch events of the Olympics, while Grant Wahl writes about the resurgence of U.S. women’s national soccer team forward Crystal Dunn. Alexander Wolff reports on Rio de Janeiro natives who are competing at the Olympics, and a photo essay by Kohjiro Kinno shows how Simone Biles trains to become the best gymnast in the world.

Also in this issue, Brian Cazeneuve makes his picks for the podium in every sport.
