Meet Team USA: 2018 Winter Olympics
The 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, are less than a year away. On Feb. 9, athletes from 95 countries will begin competition in 102 medal events, including four additions for these Games—a team event in alpine skiing, mixed doubles in curling, big air in snowboarding and a mass start in speedskating. A month later, the Paralympics begin, with five sports and 80 medal events.
On Wednesday, ten U.S. Olympic athletes visited the SI office in Manhattan: 2014 gold medalists Maddie Bowman in ski halfpipe and Joss Christianson in ski slopestyle; two-time Olympic silver medalists in hockey Meghan Duggan, Hilary Knight, Jocelyne Lamoureux and Monique Lamoureux; 2014 Olympic bronze medalist in figure skating Gracie Gold; Paralympic champions in sled hockey Nikko Landeros and Rico Roman; and two-time Olympic champion in snowboarding Shaun White.
Since they all move very quickly over snow and ice, and we had a blizzard quickly approaching, we took their pictures while we could catch them.
