Winter Olympics 2018: Friday, Feb. 9 (Day 1) Schedule

A day-by-day look at the Winter Olympics.

The 2018 Winter Olympics kick off in Pyeongchang on Feb. 9. 2018.

Day 1 of the Games will consist of the Opening Ceremony at the Olympics Stadium in the mountain cluster of venues at Alpensia Sports Park. The torch bearer will likely be figure skating champion Yuna Kim, who took home silver in Sochi and retired shortly after. Kim ia  PyeongChang 2018 ambassador and advocated for the country's bid in 2011, when IOC members voted PyeongChang as the host over Munich.

No sporting events will take place on day 1. However, Wednesday Feb. 7 (Day -2) will consist of mixed doubles curling and Thursday, Feb. 8 (Day -1) will host the team figure skating event. 

The Games will be broadcast on NBC, NBCSN and across the networks of NBC Universal. Every Olympic event will be available to stream live and on-demand on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.
