Liverpool fell just short of winning England's top league for the first time since 1989-90, finishing two points behind Manchester City.

The Reds made several notable additions on the transfer market this summer, including attacking midfielder Adam Lallana, striker Rickie Lambert and defender Dejan Lovren from Southhampton; midfielder Lazar Markovic from Benfica; midfielder Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen; and striker Divock Origi from Lille (who will be loaned back to Lille for the 2014-15 season).

Liverpool lost goalkeeper Pepe Reina to Bayern Munich and, most notably, received around $130 million for the transfer of striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona. The club also signed manager Brendan Rogers to a long-term contract.
