Manchester United

Manchester United finished seventh in the Premier League last season with 64 points. Wayne Rooney led the team with 17 goals while Robin van Persie added 12.

The club hired Louis van Gaal as manager to replace David Moyes, who was fired 10 months after he replaced longtime boss Sir Alex Ferguson. Van Gaal coached Netherlands to third place at this summer's World Cup.

Manchester United signed defender Luke Shaw from Southampton and midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao. Manchester United also lost several familiar Old Trafford faces, including defender Patrice Evra to Juventus and defender Nemanja Vidic to Inter Milan.

Midfielder Ryan Giggs retired after making 963 appearances with the Red Devils.
