Real Madrid announced Monday that German midfielder Sami Khedira will miss three weeks with a hamstring injury.

Khedira sustained the injury during Saturday's 4-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid and left the match at halftime.

He joins an already crowded injury list for Real Madrid with midfielders James Rodriguez (foot) and Luka Modric (leg) and the main defensive pairing of Sergio Ramos (hamstring) and Pepe (rib) already missing time.

Khedira is expected to miss La Liga matches against Deportino la Coruna, Elche and Villareal, as well as a Champions League Round of 16 match.

In 2013, Khedira missed time after undergoing two surgeries to repair a torn ACL sustained while playing for the German national side that November.

Khedira has been with Real Madrid since a July 2010 transfer from VtB Stuttgart. He has played in 16 matches in all this season for Real Madrid, 11 in league play, three in the Copa del Rey competition and one each in the Champions League and Supercopa de Espana.
