Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo out three weeks with calf injury
Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo will miss three weeks with a calf injury, the club announced on Thursday.
Pirlo, 35, was injured during Juventus' win over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday in Champions League play. Juventus released a statement saying Pirlo is expected to be out until mid-March.
"Andrea Pirlo has undergone tests this morning which have revealed a first degree lesion of his calf muscle in his right leg," the statement reads. "The estimated time of complete recovery is 20 days."
Pirlo will miss the club's upcoming Serie A matches against Roma, Sassuolo and Palermo along with the Coppa Italia semifinal against Fiorentina. He is expected to return in time for the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Borussia Dortmund on March 18.
In 15 Serie A matches this season, Pirlo has recorded three goals and three assists. Juventus is in first place in Serie A with a 17-6-1 record. The club has a nine-point lead over second-place Roma and is gunning for its fourth straight league title.
