Nadine Kessler, the 2014 FIFA Women's World Player of the Year, is in danger of missing this summer's World Cup because she needs knee surgery, according to reports.

Kessler, 26, reportedly will undergo the procedure in March. She reportedly will miss the remainder of the season for VFL Wolfsburg, which currently sits in first place in the Bundesliga.

The knee injury has kept Kessler from playing since October.

Shortly after Kessler's injury was revealed, German midfielder Luisa Wensing broke her leg during the team's victory over China in group play at the Algarve Cup, according to the Associated Press. It's unknown how much time Wensing will miss.
