Bayern Munich's David Alaba will miss seven weeks with an MCL tear
Bayern Munich defender David Alaba will miss seven weeks but hopes to be back for the end of the season after tearing his MCL on international duty.
Playing for Austria, Alaba suffered the injury in Tuesday's 1-1 friendly draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina. The 22-year-old Alaba has started 19 league games this season for Bayern, scoring two goals. He had scored in Austria's Euro 2016 qualifying match against Lichtenstein on March 27.
“I’m obviously really disappointed at the moment,” Alaba told Bayern Munich's official website, “But I have one big target: I want to be back for the finale this season. I’ll make sure I recover completely and then I’ll go for it in rehab.”
Bayern currently leads the German Bundesliga table by 10 points with eight matches to play, and the club was drawn against Porto in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. Alaba will miss both legs of the tie, which is slated for April 15 and 21.
Bayern is aiming to reach the final, which is being held in Berlin.
