Saturday April 11th, 2015

Washington Spirit and U.S. women's national team defender Ali Krieger sustained a head injury during Friday night’s game against the Houston Dash.

Krieger was treated on the field and taken off on a stretcher after leaping to head the ball and appearing to make contact with another player’s head. Footage of the collision can be seen here

“She is doing okay,” Spirit coach Mark Parsons told The Washington Post. “It wasn’t pretty. She was in a bad way. We were all a bit worried.”

The Spirit tweeted that Krieger “has been initially diagnosed w/ a mild concussion” and that “NWSL & USSF concussion protocols are being followed & she is being monitored.”

Krieger, 30, is projected to start for the U.S. at the Women’s World Cup this summer.
