WATFORD, England (AP) — Watford sealed its return to the Premier League after an eight-year absence after winning on Saturday seeing its promotion rival lose in England's second tier.

With one game remaining, Watford cannot be denied a top-two finish in the League Championship.

Watford beat Brighton 2-0 away to stay top of the league, and then saw third-place Middlesbrough lose and fourth-place Norwich draw.

The team, managed by former Chelsea midfielder Slavisa Jokanovic of Serbia, hasn't played in the Premier League since 2006-07 — when it won just five games and finished in last place.

Watford's only other stint in the Premier League also lasted one season, in 1999-2000.

Watford was one of England's top clubs in the mid-1980s, finishing second in the top flight in 1983 and reaching the FA Cup final in 1984.
