USMNT's Aron Johannsson laces game-winning goal from long range

Monday May 11th, 2015

Aron Johannsson's scoring rate has been down some this season for AZ Alkmaar, as he's battled injury ever since the World Cup, but he scored in spectacular fashion to deliver a win for the Eredivisie club on Sunday.

Johannsson scored on a long-range blast in the 88th minute to complete a late comeback and cap a 3-2 win over NAC Breda. The U.S. men's national team forward found himself alone with possession about 35 yards out and laced a right-footed hit that curled inside the left post.

It was AZ's second goal in a five-minute span, as the club overturned a 2-1 deficit to stay on pace with Feyenoord for the league's automatic UEFA Europa League berth. As it stands, AZ is in fourth place and assured of a place in the playoff round for the Europa League.

As for Johannsson, the goal was his seventh of the season, all of which have come in league play. He scored 26 in all competitions a season ago.
