Meet Lauren Holiday; Midfielder for the U.S. Women's World Cup team
Midfielder | No. 12
Hometown: Indianapolis, Indiana
Club: FC Kansas City
Holiday moved into a deep-lying playmaker role in 2014 under Jill Ellis, who prefers technical distributors in the No. 6 role rather than the traditional destroyer-type of player. She plays higher up the field for FC Kansas City, where she provided both assists in the team’s 2-1 victory in the 2014 NWSL championship game. She was voted the final’s MVP, and she leads the NWSL all-time in both goals and assists.
Holiday started all six of the U.S.’s games at the last World Cup in what was a breakout tournament for her on the world stage, earning a starting spot just before the tournament began. Formerly Lauren Cheney, her husband, Jrue Holiday, plays point guard for the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans.
