The New York Cosmos and New York Red Bulls will meet in the US Open Cup round of 16.
The New York Cosmos and New York Red Bulls will meet in the round of 16 of the U.S. Open Cup on July 1 at Red Bull Arena, U.S. Soccer announced on Thursday following the draw for the round.
The Red Bulls are seeking their first U.S. Open Cup title as well as revenge from last year's 3-0 loss to their NASL and local rivals.
The Cosmos will be looking to take down a second MLS area opponent after eliminating New York City FC on Wednesday night 4-3 on penalty kicks after a 2-2 draw. The Red Bulls defeated NYCFC 2-1 in their first meeting on May 10 in an MLS tie.
The Cosmos and Red Bulls share the East region with D.C. United and the Philadelphia Union.
The Portland Timbers will play Real Salt Lake after knocking out reigning champion Seattle Sounders in the round of 32. That match was marred by three Seattle ejections, including Clint Dempsey being tossed for ripping a referee's notebook in disgust over a call.
