John Terry says Chelsea will not renew his contract
Chelsea defender John Terry will not have his contract renewed at the end of this season, he confirmed to reporters after his team's 5–1 victory over MK Dons on Sunday.
The longtime Chelsea captain has called Stamford Bridge home since 1998. He has appeared in 477 games with Chelsea, spending most of his career playing at center back.
According to Jeremy Wilson of the Daily Telegraph, Terry wants to continue playing, but will not seek a contract with another English club.
During his tenure as captain, Terry, 35, has led Chelsea to four Premier League titles, five FA Cups and a Champions League title.
ESPNFC’s Taylor Twellman speculates that Terry could find a new home in the MLS this summer.
Terry would be the third former Chelsea star to join MLS in recent years. Forward Didier Drogba is entering his second season with Montreal and midfielder Frank Lampard plays for NYCFC.
