John Goossens certainly helped his case in earning a contract with MLS and the Chicago Fire with one spectacular move.

Goossens, the 27-year-old former Ajax youth midfielder, took a clearance attempt off his chest and then converted a phenomenal left-footed volley from 35 yards in the Fire's 1-1 preseason scrimmage against the University of Portland on Thursday night. Chicago, which is playing in a preseason tournament hosted by the Portland Timbers that also features the Vancouver Whitecaps and Minnesota United FC this weekend, opened the scoring in the 75-minute contest through Goossens's tremendous effort.

Goossens, who has previously played for Dutch clubs NEC and Feyenoord, is hoping to join countryman Johan Kappelhof, the 25-year-old defender signed by new GM Nelson Rodriguez, as the Fire rebuild after a league-worst season in 2015.
